Using your screen as a mirror

Need a quick mirror at your desk, in the car or before a video call? Open this page, allow camera access, and your camera shows a live, flipped image just like a looking glass. Use zoom to get a close-up for makeup, contact lenses or shaving, and full screen for a bigger view.

Tips for the best picture

  • Face the light: sit facing a window or lamp. Light from behind makes your face dark.
  • Turn on the light ring in a dim room. It turns the edges of your screen white to light your face, and works best with screen brightness turned up.
  • Clean the camera lens with a soft cloth for a sharper image.
  • Hold the phone at eye level to avoid an unflattering angle from below.

Mirror view vs true view

With Mirror on, you see yourself as in a bathroom mirror: raise your right hand and the hand on the right side of the screen moves. Turn it off to see the "true" view that others see in photos and video calls. Text on your shirt will read correctly in the true view.

Frequently asked questions

How does the online mirror work?

It uses your device's camera and shows the picture flipped left to right, just like a real mirror. Everything happens in your browser: the video is not recorded or uploaded.

Why do I look different from how others see me?

A mirror shows you flipped, which is the view you are used to. Photos and video calls show you the right way round, which can look slightly odd because faces are not perfectly symmetrical. Turn off "Mirror" to see what others see.

Can I make the picture brighter?

Yes. Use the brightness slider to light up a dim room, or turn on the light ring, which fills the screen edges with white light to brighten your face, like a ring light.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. Open this page on your phone and allow camera access. Use the camera switch to choose the front (selfie) camera.

Can I save a photo?

Press "Take photo" to save the current picture to your device as an image file, with the same mirror and brightness settings you see on screen.
