How to use the Magic 8 Ball
- Think of a question with a yes or no answer and type it in the box (or just keep it in your head).
- Press the ball or "Shake the ball".
- Read the answer in the window. Ask another question whenever you like.
The 20 possible answers
Like the original toy, the ball has 20 answers. Ten lean yes ("Without a doubt", "Most likely"), five are non-committal ("Ask again later", "Too hazy to tell") and five lean no ("Very doubtful", "Don't count on it"). The answer turns green, amber or red so you can see at a glance which way it went.
Fun ways to use it
- Party games: everyone asks a silly question and the group reacts to the answer.
- Breaking a tie on small things, like which movie to watch.
- Ice breakers in class or online meetings.
Want a straight 50/50 answer? Flip a coin. Choosing between more options? Spin the wheel or try the yes or no wheel.

Frequently asked questions
How does the online Magic 8 Ball work?
Type a yes-or-no question, then shake the ball by pressing it or the Ask button. The ball picks one of 20 answers at random: 10 positive, 5 non-committal and 5 negative, the same mix as the classic toy.
Can the Magic 8 Ball predict the future?
No. Every answer is chosen at random, so it is purely for fun. Use it for games, parties or light decisions, not for anything important.
What kind of questions should I ask?
Questions that can be answered with yes or no work best, like "Will it be a good day?" or "Should I order pizza tonight?". Questions starting with "what" or "why" will get answers that do not make sense.
What are the chances of a yes?
Half of the 20 answers are yes, a quarter are maybe and a quarter are no. So you have a 50% chance of a positive answer, 25% for "ask again" style answers and 25% for a no.
Is my question saved?
No. Your question never leaves your device and is not stored. It is only shown above the answer so you remember what you asked.
