Popular uses

  • Giveaways and raffles: number the entries and draw winners fairly.
  • Games: roll virtual dice (1 to 6), pick a player or choose a random question.
  • Classrooms: call on a random student number or make random groups.
  • Research and testing: pick a random sample from a numbered list.
  • Decisions: can't choose between options? Number them and let chance decide.

How the randomness works

Many simple generators use Math.random(), which is fine for games but predictable in principle. This tool uses the Web Crypto API built into every modern browser, and it avoids "modulo bias", a subtle flaw that can make some numbers slightly more likely than others. Every number in your range is equally likely.

Need letters instead? Try the random letter generator. Picking from a list of names? Use the spin the wheel tool.

Frequently asked questions

Are the numbers truly random?

They come from your browser's cryptographic random number generator (Web Crypto), the same source used to create secure keys. Every number in your range has an equal chance, and results cannot be predicted from earlier draws.

Can I generate numbers without repeats?

Yes. Tick "No repeats" to draw numbers like tickets from a hat. You can draw at most as many numbers as there are in your range.

Are the minimum and maximum included?

Yes. A range of 1 to 10 can return 1, 10 or anything in between.

Can I use this for a giveaway or raffle?

Yes. Number your entries, set the range to match, and draw the number of winners you need with "No repeats" on. For transparency, share your screen or record the draw.

Can I use negative numbers?

Yes. Any whole numbers work, for example −50 to 50.
