What lorem ipsum is used for
Designers, developers and publishers use placeholder text to see how a layout will look with real-length content: how paragraphs wrap, how much space a card needs, or how a page flows. Lorem ipsum works well because its word lengths look natural in English layouts while being clearly "not real", so nobody mistakes it for final copy.
How to use the generator
- Choose how many paragraphs, sentences or words you need.
- Pick plain text, or HTML if you are pasting into code.
- Press Generate, then Copy.
Where it comes from
The text traces back to a passage from Cicero's De finibus bonorum et malorum ("On the Ends of Good and Evil"), written in 45 BC. Typesetters adapted it centuries later, and it became the standard filler text in printing and, later, in digital design.
Tips for using placeholder text
- Use realistic lengths. If real headlines will be short, test with short placeholder headlines too.
- Search your project for "lorem" before launch so no placeholder text is left behind.
- When real content is available, design with it. It often changes layout decisions.
